Oregon Beach Cleanups - Big Success

This past weekend in Oregon, Surfrider Newport and Portland Chapters participated in SOLV's annual Spring Beach Cleanup by captaining 3 different area cleanups on the north and central coast (South Beach State Park, Lost Creek State Park and Gearhart State Park. Volunteers from all over Oregon participated in the cleanup efforts. South Beach and Lost Creek had a combined show of over 200 volunteers and hauled away 100s of bags of trash. Some of the odder finds: boat hull, truck liner, 5 gallon container of diesel still full (pictured), 12 foot floating dock! The statewide cleanup turned out 5,100 volunteers scouring 362 miles of Oregon coastline. The total statewide yield for the cleanup was around 52 tons of trash and debris, yikes! Big thanks to all who participated and special thanks to Abby McCarthy, Joe and Jes Haxel, Noelle Saint-Cyr and Andi Bernard for captaining our sites! Pictured clockwise from upper left: Abby McCarthy - Newport Chapter, Noelle Saint-Cyr and Andi Bernard - Portland Chapter, 5 gallons of diesel picked up at South Beach and the haul from our Gearhart site.
