Florida Surfrider Member Receives Burke “Biff” Lampton Outdoor Writer of the Year Award

The Florida Wildlife Federation Honors Terry Gibson among 15 conservationists.
On Saturday, Florida surfrider member, surf journalist, and Florida Sportsman/Shallow Water Angler editor Terry Gibson received the Florida Wildlife Federation’s award for the Outdoor writer of the year.

“Terry Gibson’s work not only educates hunters, anglers, divers and surfers about techniques and honey holes, but places an emphasis on the role recreationalists can play in influencing environmentally proactive change,” said FWF director, Manley Fuller.

Fuller went on to say that, “It is often the user that is first aware of the problems for pollution or over-development when one of his or her favorite spots is spoiled. And presently one of the issues Terry is working on is ‘beach re-nourishment’ and the ecological damage that can result from overly zealous application of this process. Additionally he is very concerned about the declining state of our coral reefs and the need for more turtle friendly beach projects.

We are indeed fortunate to have a person in the communications field who cares do deeply about our coastal systems and the threats to their longterm well being.”

Surfrider has set an example for a civic minded organization.

Maybe it can do something to help Surfside overcome its present situation of being abused by self serving politicians who masquerade as being environmentally conscious.

Can Surfrider help, are its members interested in helping to expose and defang an evil group who has lied their way into office, saying they are 'green', but meaning 'green' only in terms of cash going out of the city and into 'friendly' private hands? Surfside Florida needs help in 2008.

Ruining an oceanfront community to suit the interests of greed. Incompetence and deceit are at the root of the national financial crisis and at the root of the Surfside Florida financial crisis. Worst politicians in the country are roosting now in Surfside Florida. They sure can smile while they rip us off. After raising all taxes and fees higher than ever before they want to put the town of surfside into debt for generations to suit their political agenda and fuel a money machine. The vote will be on November 4. But they already hurt us by giving this as an october surpirse:

Property taxes up 11% for 2009
Sewer bills up 37% for 2009
Water bills up 41% for 2009
Garbage bills up 59% for 2009
Stormwater bills up 114% for 2009

Mayor Burkett, Vice Mayor Weinberg, Commissioner Imberman, Commissioner Levine, Commissioner Calderon, this is horrible what you are doing to Surfside. Debt, bond issues, deficits, higher taxes and fees, and you just can't cover it up it is there for us all to see - and pay for.
